Part 1 of 7 – You Are Never Too Old to Begin: Why awakening is a marathon, not a sprint

Series intro
There comes a time in life when truth matters more than performance, and presence matters more than speed. For many readers in later life, spirituality becomes less about collecting ideas and more about living with clarity, honesty, and meaning. This seven-part series is an invitation into that deeper way of living: practical, mystical, and rooted in the conviction that awakening is always possible.  Each new part should appear approximately one week after the previous one.

You Are Never Too Old to Begin: Why awakening is a marathon, not a sprint

There is a quiet lie many people carry into later life: that the time for change has already passed. The truth is kinder. You are never too old to begin.

2026: The Crossroad

We are approaching a threshold that cannot be softened or postponed. As this new year unfolds, it’s becoming clear that we have already entered the most intense period of change this world has ever known. What is moving now is not incremental—it is foundational. Something vast is already underway, and it will not wait for our comfort or consensus. The only real choice left to us is how we meet it.

This is why I have named it 2026: The Crossroad.

A crossroad is not a destination. It’s a choice of direction. A moment you move through, not a place you inhabit. It is where neutrality dissolves, where the familiar loosens its grip, and where standing still is no longer possible.

The Paradox of Love in Action

Magic of Service

The universe operates on a fundamental principle: what you send out into the world comes back to you. This concept is known by many names—The Law of Action and Reaction, Karma, The Mirror Effect, The Secret, or simply the phrase, “What goes around comes around.”

Yet, within spiritual practices lies a powerful paradox: it’s possible for what you send out to return to you amplified, often more than you initially gave. This understanding opens the door to a profound way of increasing positive energy and spiritual growth.

When engaging in spiritual practices, you can cultivate deep feelings of peace and inspiration—experiences that uplift your soul. For example, during meditation, you might envision a future world filled with harmony and freedom for all.

Trusting Divine Love

In this article I am using the three-letter word GOD to describe a conscious awareness that includes everyone and everything in all creation. Many refer to GOD as the Creator, Great Spirit, Universe, Zero Point, Source, the Divine, and other similar terms. If you are uncomfortable with the term GOD, you may substitute whatever term you are comfortable with.

In recent years, the world has witnessed an unprecedented wave of political conflict, social unrest, and disheartening news. With daily updates that sow anxiety and concern, it’s easy to fall into despair and hopelessness. But what if, instead of being burdened by these worries, we turned to a deeper understanding of our faith? If we truly believed in and trusted GOD—recognizing GOD as love itself and knowing that GOD always has our highest good in mind—we could find profound peace even amidst chaos.

Winter Spiritual Practices

Winter Spiritual Practices

Winter, especially close to the solstice, is not only a time of celebration but also an opportunity for spiritual reflection and connection. Here are some special winter solstice related spiritual practices that focus on personal growth, mindfulness, and connecting with others that you might consider:

1. Mindful Gratitude:
Gratitude Journaling: Take time each day leading up to the solstice to write down things you are grateful for, focusing on the positive aspects of your life and the year you’ve had.

Acts of Kindness: Perform simple acts of kindness for others, such as volunteering, helping a neighbor, or writing uplifting notes to friends and family.

2. Reflection and Intent Setting:
Year-End Reflection: Spend some quiet time reflecting on the past year.

Fall Equinox Newsletter : Celebrate the Cycle of Life

The Fall Equinox is the second of the three major harvest festivals. The Celtic name for it is Mabon: the season of storing food and preserving nature’s bounty for the coming winter months. This year it will be on September 22nd at 8:44 am Pacific Time, just as the sun enters Libra, the sign of the balancing scales. The term Equinox refers to this balance of day and night. The cycle of life as evidenced by plants is: Spring (birth) Fall: seeds falling and going underground (death) only to grow again in spring: (rebirth). This cycle has been revered for at least 30,000 years; probably for as long as humans have gathered herbs and plants in familiar places during certain seasons.

Breathing for Health and Spiritual Growth

balance blur close up

Breathing is one of the most important of all of the functions of the body because so many other systems depend upon it. The survival rule of 3 says a person can survive 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, but only 3 minutes without air. Humans are the only species on Earth that can control their breath. Multiple studies have shown that breathing correctly can improve your health, prevent diseases, prolong your life, and other benefits.

Children and those of indigenous groups (unless they have developed the bad habits of modern society) tend to breathe correctly. Most contemporary adults have shallow, rapid breathing habits which inhibit their health and well-being.

Breathing is the most important influencer of HRV (Heart Rate Variability) which is one of the best indicators of overall health.

Spiritual Ethics

Spiritual ethics, free will, black magic

Free will is the idea that humans (the only Beings on Earth that have a Soul) have the ability to make our own choices and determine our own fates. With this in mind, do people really have free will, or are people’s lives in fact shaped by powers outside of their control? This question has long challenged and still does challenge philosophers and religious thinkers, as well as scientists who have examined the problem from psychological and neuroscientific perspectives. In addition to these perspectives is the idea that people have free and the capacity to make choices undetermined by past events, a state Dynamism helps people attain and calls Personal Sovereignty.

Behavioral science firmly believes that an individuals’ behavioral tendencies and decisions are influenced by genetics, as well as by factors in the environment that may be outside of a person’s control.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

This Universe is a free will Universe made up of 12 dimensions. Science proved 20+ years ago that each of these 12 dimensions moves 60 times faster than the one before it. This is something the ancients knew, is written in the Vedas, and is referenced in the Old Testament. As we know there are many things science does not understand, especially energy. For example, today science estimates 68-94% of energy is “dark energy”, a term they use to describe what they do not understand. In physical cosmology and astronomy, dark energy is defined as an unknown form of energy that affects the universe on the largest scales. The reality is each dimension of the Universe has 2 energies, which can be called electro-magnetic and magneto-electric.

PERSEVERANCE FURTHERS

As many of us get through the challenges of extreme winter weather, Al Manning would say, “this too shall pass.” It is important to stay positive and forward thinking. Al knew that Life is Change.  Now, for those of us in the North American continent, Spring is just around the corner.  Let us welcome the pending Spring into our hearts and minds and then, before you know it, Spring with all its glory of renewal and rebirth returns.

Recently I received a copy of the book, THE I-CHING, which is also known as THE BOOK OF CHANGES.  Some fifty years or so ago, I became exposed to its teachings, which offer oracles and ethical teachings since the dawn of time.
